King’s Day

March 26 2025.

We didn’t have an easy time waking up, but we finally woke up around 10.

Once we were ready we headed to the lobby to meet my parents.

There we were offered a piece of tompoes, a mille-feuille dessert topped with orange icing.

Lots of orange today. Even our outfits.

The streets were busy, but they only got more insane.

It took us a while, but we made it to a spot to have lunch.

With a stop at Screaming Beans for Julia to get coffee, and then some people on the street selling orange hard seltzer from Gig.

Lunch was at Trattoria That’s Amore.

Basically selected because it was open, and close to where we were.

The food wasn’t bad.

We shared pizzas.

A short walk later we arrived to Heineken for the experience tour.

We’d done it before, but it was slightly updated.

The guy running the line, loved Lloyd, gave Julia like 8 tokens, when we had so strictly been given 2.

After the tour I got a Pepsi, while my parents and Julia had Heineken.

I was lucky they had it.

They said they have about 3,000 to 4,000 visitors a day. And go through about one tank a day.

They have the largest refrigerator in Amsterdam.

It holds 16 tanks of beer. They’re so large they don’t move. They’re filled with hoses.

We got to see this because they enjoyed us and our questions.

I asked a hard one that they didn’t know the answer to.

They had a number of bottles on display. Before 2013 Heineken was a Pilsner. After 2013 the bottle said it was a lager.

I said why did they change?

They had no idea what I was talking about.

Anyone else know?

My mom was way too short for this.

This was a very impressive ad. The beer is cut out, and that’s a plastic sheet to mimic the glass and beer.

Everyone shocked at the same thing.

See, Pilsner.

We ended our experience on the roof. It was a nice space.

This is the city’s 750th anniversary. And they made a special beer for the occasion.

It’s called Mokum750. Brewed by cafe owners in the city, in partnership with Heineken Studio.

It’s similar to classic Heineken, but with coriander and citrus hop.

Once we left we took an Uber back to the hotel, or so we thought.

He dropped us much further than we thought.

So we had to walk the craziest blocks yet.

Once we got to the hotel, Julia wanted to go out and see some more.

On one hand it was nice to see, and the other it was not an ideal situation for me.

We walked to dinner, which wasn’t far, but took some extra time.

We ate at The Duchess, which had been on my list for ages.

We shared a bit.

Julia and I had the tuna tartare with pistachios, green goddess salad, pepper steak, and a pesto pasta.

This bottle has the S.

We had a nice meal.

The server wasn’t my favorite. But he was fine.

I just don’t understand why they don’t write orders down.

I’m not impressed if you don’t, or docking points if you do.

Back at the hotel Julia watched Pocahontas. I don’t think I can say I watched it because I was on my phone posting pictures and writing this.

Until Tomorrow.
