A Lot More Than Tulips

April 25 2025.

It was a long day.

We made our war through customs, and decided to take an Uber. It was relatively inexpensive.

Then we decided to take a cab since it was closer, we also figured it’d be about the same price.

It was actually twice as much. Which was annoying.

Once we got to the hotel we were so early we hung out in a waiting room, and then got ready to go eat.

I had Pancakehouse Upstairs on my list from two sources.

We arrived to see it was fully booked, but figured we’d ask for next available.

They ended up having two seats at a table with two girls, so we got very lucky.

Because all we heard was people getting turned away in person and on the phone, unless you were looking for after Tuesday.

Julia and I shared a jam and cheese pancake and a King pancake (strawberries and cream).

It was a very small restaurant, 5 tables of 4, and 1 bar seat. All at the top of very steep steps. With a cook and a server doing it all, in addition to fielding the constant phone calls.

Once we finished there we went to De Pilsner Club.

Julia had a beer, and I fought falling asleep in my chair. Somewhat unsuccessfully.

Once we left, we walked to the train station to meet our bus taking us to Kukenhof.

It’s a beautiful garden, focused on tulips.

However, when I was picturing this place, I was expecting just fields of tulips.

It was hard to capture in pictures, but we had a nice few hours there.

I napped on the bus there and back.

Back at the station, I had joked that my parent’s boat was right across from us.

It turns out it was.

So we joined them for a drink on the boat, and took their suitcases with us. Just in case tomorrow is a disaster like they’re saying it will be.

Back at the hotel I took off my death shoes, and we dropped our things off in the room.

Why do hotels insist on having a window between bedrooms and bathrooms,

We then walked to Cafe De Klos for dinner.

Thankfully we didn’t wait long, and got spots at the bar.

We shared escargot, and each had two pieces of spare ribs.

I had the classic, and Julia had a classic and a smoked.

For dessert I had the weirdest version of a brownie from them, and then we headed back to the hotel.

The streets are pretty loud, but hopefully we can sleep through it.

Until Tomorrow.
